Sister Carmen’s first teaching assignments took her to schools across St. Louis. She served five years at St. John Nepomuk School; eight years at St. Martin of Tours; and three years at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. From 1976-1987, she served in administration at St. Joseph School in East St. Louis, Illinois. For the next 13 years, she ministered to children at St. Joseph’s Children’s Center in East St. Louis. At the dawn of the new millennium, Sister Carmen undertook nearly a decade-long ministry inchild care at a family member’s residence in Belleville. She has lived and served in numerous volunteer roles across the Belleville diocese since 2007. Her undergraduate degree, earned at the former Notre Dame College in St. Louis, is in biology. She later earned a master’s degree in elementary education from the University of Missouri in Columbia. Sister also served as a member of NBSC Board.

A memory I want to share...

After leaving formal education, I became a foster parent. During this time, a six-month-old baby boy came to live with us. My request to become Tony’s legal guardian was granted. I am privileged to be a sister, a mother and a grandmother.
